While compiling music for New Years Eve festivities I thought I would share my playlists so that throughout all the eating, making merry and dancing you plan to do you don't have to sit down and listen to Spotify's entire 90's R&B and hip-hop catalogue like I did. In case you were curious, it takes about two days. I will continue to adjust and refine the playlists until the clock strikes midnight, so check back and subscribe for updates.
This playlist is for the the hours of the evening before 12:00am when everyone is still classily sipping punch, conversing about resolutions and the shoes, scarves and dance-floor dignity have yet to be shed. It's fun and sexy and will still keep the vibe upbeat while giving them just enough bass to stay hungry until the ball drops. It picks-up at the end, but ends with Chris Bathgate's beautiful rendition of Auld Lang Syne which might kill the vibe but is beautiful for a toast, or to quietly accompany the countdown.
Ready, or not: I'll lead you into this one carefully and work up through classics, current dance hits, lots of Michael and that delicious 90's stuff. Things take a turn around Get it Poppin', which is only natural. If the night dies early you might just miss Chingy and J-Kwon. I cringed as I added some of the songs (I wonder if Ja Rule and Miley would be friends?), but they are certain to get your party-goers movin' and shakin'. Lean into it like you did in high school.
Let me know what you think and certainly send along those requests and dedications, I'll see what I can do.
